This is a very interesting discussion here. I was happy to see Douglas Rushkoff at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on January 30. I only wish I could have stayed for the book signing, but had to rush home to my kids. The previous night he had appeared at the legendary City Lights Books. I missed him then, as I was at a rally for education at City Hall.
I am reading Team Human, and really enjoying it. I got my copy at Books, Inc. — a birthday present to myself! I loved Rushkoff’s previous book, Throwing Rock at the Google Bus. I told a lot of people about that book. The title always caught everyone’s attention as I was seen reading it in various places. Last summer, I was re-reading it while on a train from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana, and a young man in a wheelchair asked me about the book. As Rushkoff says: Find the others!
As an avid reader of non-fiction, I like to know what is going on in the world. But because we live in such troubled times, these books are usually gloomy and depressing. Noam Chomsky, for instance, has written many very informative books, but they tend to remind me of an old quote from Donald Rumsfeld ‘Henny Penny the sky is falling…’
In contrast, Rushkoff’s writing is actually uplifting and affirming. Team Human is a celebration of humanity. It’s time for us all to join Team Human!
